Surely You Must Be Joking! Leslie Nielsen Passed Away?*

I'm not joking and quit calling me Shirley.

Canadian actor Leslie Nielsen, who most famously achieved global success in comedy movies such as "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died aged 84, Manitoba radio station CJOB reported Sunday.

His death was first reported in unconfirmed messages on Twitter late Sunday that suggested the actor had died in the hospital after suffering from pneumonia.

His nephew Doug Nielson, told CJOB that Leslie had been in the hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 12 days and that with family and friends by his side at 5:30pm Sunday "he just fell asleep and passed away."

Before he starred in Aiplane!, he was a known as very serious actor, i.e., The Forbidden Planet.

Jim Abrams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker offered him the role as the doctor and he jumped at it. Giving Nielsen a second chance in show business with a comical career.

Something about ones that made you laugh, you will miss the most.

This isn't to highlight the 'Surely' gag but the more overshadowed line: "What is it?". If I remember my movie right, it was dropped a few times.

*All too many blogs probably used this gag as a title for Nielsen's passing. Low hanging fruit. But-- on some level-- I don't think Leslie would mind.

Happy Thanksgiving

I thought it appropriate to include George Washington's Thanksgiving declaration.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

And for the traditionalists, The Daley Gator had A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

The Parable Of The Shot TV

Did you know that if you voted for Bristol Palin on Dancing With the Stars, you helped to improve the economy?

It's true.

As she progressed week after week in the contest, people became further and further incensed at her. Enough to where one Steven Cowan picked up his gun and shot his TV.

You might think that he might be a little off his rocker. He may have misread his medication as "6 pills every 2 hours" instead of the other way around. He may have thought that it would have impressed Brook Burke. Who knows?

But here's what I think happened. He was looking to stimulate the economy.

He went Elvis on the TV and ended up in a 15 hour stand off with the police. The police do not work for free. They'll be getting extra pay in their checks for the overtime and hazard duty*. Then there is the cost for the courts and lawyers. Those attorneys need someway to pay for the big ad on the back of the phone book.

Not to mention that Cowan's wife will buy a new TV. She'll have more disposable income as well because she won't be supporting his TV viewing habits. . . His diet of Natty Light. . . His PPV bill. . . This is the proverbial finding a dollar in the gutter for her. Maybe she can now afford a divorce attorney?

All because you voted for Bristol, the economy was stimulated.

With any luck, she will win. That means more TVs will be shot and more stimulus for the economy.

Or something.

*Not sure if police get hazard pay or not. But it sounded good for the posting so I left it in.

It's Official. Renee Ellmers Is Now Rep.-Elect Ellmers

Bob "Huggie Bear" Etheridge concedes with a 'Woe Is Me' type of speech that only Democrats can seem to pull off (See Wrangle, Charlie).

In a statement from his campaign, the seven-term congressman said, "The combination of the national tide that swept the country, massive amounts of secret corporate cash funding a campaign of distortions, and dirty politics by Washington D.C. partisan operatives was just too much to overcome."

Let's break this down one by one.

Why at was the cause of the national tide? An out of touch Congress not listening to their constituents.

Massive amounts of secret spending? As Robert Stacy noted, he outspent Rep.-elect Ellmers 3 to 1. To put that into perspective, Bob must grab the necks of three college students and slur uncontrollably, "Who're You?!" compared to the one neck he grabbed in his now famous video.

Dirty political party tricks. It's only dirty when the other side does it. And somehow manages the politician in question to grab a guy across the throat. Dirty. Completely dirty.

And partisan operatives. Duh. It's an election year and they are in the opposing party. As much as they are the party of stupid, Republicans have proved they can learn a thing or two from 'Macacca'.

A bit of a mea culpa here. It was all to easy to dogpile on Bob "Colombian Necktie" Etheridge when the video first hit the internet. I missed the obvious connection that it was orchestrated in part by the RNCC. At the very least, by someone who equipped the two operatives and sent them into the streets where they knew Nancy Pelosi and several other Democrat members of Congress were having a meeting. It was pure luck that Bob "Full Nelson" Ethridge in some sort of drunken stupor* when he asked them, "Who're you?"

Now he's history. Make no mistake however, Etheridge was no more "TMZ'd" than George Allan was.

Congratulations, Rep.-elect Ellmers. I've waited a long time to say that.

*And he has still yet to deny it. It's the seriousness of the charge outweighs any burden of proof. Don't look at me like that. It's their rules. I just live by them.

This Is Welcome News

The official recount is coming to an end and it looks like Renee Ellmers-- baring any suddenly "found" ballot boxes-- will be declared the winner.

Ellmers held a lead of about 1,500 votes out of nearly 190,000 cast in the 2nd Congressional District. She has spent the week in Washington getting oriented with the job in anticipation that she will be declared the official winner.

The State Board of Elections is expected to certify election results at a meeting next Tuesday.

Now Bob "The Chicken Choker" Etheridge will have to throttle strangers as a private citizen instead of as a member of Congress.

Good thing too, I was running out of titles for him. The Streetside Strangler, Noted Chokehold Expert, Neck Wrangler, Sleeper Hold, "Who're You?". . . It can be taxing after a while.

Virginia Republicans overwhelmingly want George Allen to be their candidate for the Senate in 2012. 46% say he'd be their pick with the second (and unlikely) choice of Eric Cantor falling all the way back at 18%. 16% would like Ken Cuccinelli and then there's very little support for the remaining options given- 4% for Bill Bolling and Tom Davis and only 2% for Bob Marshall.

George Allen had his chance and lost it. Not for the made up word, 'Macaca'. But by voting for pretty much anything that came down the pipeline regarding big government spending. It signals to me that he's "More Of The Same" when it comes to growing the government when it should be the other way around.

If any of the Tea Party endorses Allen, then that will answer the question of who is still standing on principles and who has been co-opted by the GOP.

*This was being passed out at the Tea Party Convention a couple of months ago here in Richmond, VA. At the very same time George Allen was speaking during a Q & A forum. As for why he was there? I can only speculate that the organizers wanted someone who has been in DC and has seen the sausage making first hand. And Allen may have been returning a favor to some of the higher ups in the Tea Party who has worked for him in the past.

Did Glenn Thrush Knowingly Publish A Misleading Report About Andy Harris?

Seeing how the key takeaway quote is buried seven paragraphs deep.

[Andy Harris' spokeswoman, Anna] Nix said Harris, who is the father of five, wasn’t being hypocritical – he was just pointing out the inefficiency of government-run health care.

But that doesn't stop most liberal, progressive and idiot (but I've been repeating myself) blogs from clipping only the first two paragraphs.

A conservative Maryland physician elected to Congress on an anti-Obamacare platform surprised fellow freshmen at a Monday orientation session by demanding to know why his government-subsidized health care plan takes a month to kick in.

Republican Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who defeated freshman Democrat Frank Kratovil on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, reacted incredulously when informed that federal law mandated that his government-subsidized health care policy would take effect on Feb. 1 – 28 days after his Jan. 3rd swearing-in.

Check out the Memeorandum link. Most of the liberal blogs (at least most of the ones I checked out. Didn't click through them all) have taken the first two paragraphs out of context and never mention the 'Punking' that Harris did.

The Stack Of Naked Pictures John Cornyn Has Must Be Pretty Impressive

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw that John Cornyn's running unopposed to be in charge of the NRSC again. And Marco Rubio is supporting him? The same Marco Rubio that ran and won against the NRSC endorsed Charlie Crist in Florida? The NRSC that was headed by John Cornyn at the time?

Yes, yes he is.

Politics makes strange bedfellows, indeed.

Sen. John Cornyn is expected Tuesday to formally make a bid for another two years as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
GOP sources confirm to CNN that the Texas Republican will put his name up for nomination for re-election as NRSC chairman, as the Senate Republican Conference meets behind closed doors. According to the sources, the two-term senator is not expected to face any opposition in his bid to remain as NRSC chairman, and has already secured the support of a number of new Republican Senators, including Marco Rubio of Florida, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Rob Portman of Ohio, and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire.

Emphasis mine.

Robert Stacy isn't pleased about this, needless to say. Cornyn's behavior was the reason Not One Red Cent was started.

Maybe Cornyn is going to owe them a favor or two for the support? One can only hope at this point this might be the case.

The Walking Dead: The Series So Far

AKA: Because man cannot live off of bread alone. All politics all the time does get a little dry at times.

The show centers around Rick Grimes as he awakes from a coma and tries to find his wife and son in a post apocalyptic world filled with zombies.

As with 28 Days Later, some of the scarier situations don't pertain to the zombies but to society breaking down. With Frank Darabont at the helm, many of the characters are turning out to be rather thin. Racist redneck brothers Merle and Daryl cause most of the tension within the rest of the camp. They make a sheet of paper seem deep and complex.

Of course the stray zombie or two still adds to the drama.

Bob "Sleeper Hold" Etheride Asks For Recount

The ballots are counted and there's less than 1% difference between Bob and Renee Ellmers. Allowing Bob to ask for a recount.

Down by some 1,500 votes, North Carolina Rep. Bob Etheridge (D) has asked for a recount in his race against Republican challenger Renee Ellmers.
[. . .]
Etheridge trails by 1,489 votes, according to the North Carolina Board of Elections' latest count. The seven-term Democrat has gained some 600 votes since Election Day, according his campaign.

Obviously this begs the question: Why does Bob Etheridge hate women? A very qualified candidate beat him and he's not conceding to her?

Bob "The Streetside Strangler" Etheridge Watch: Day One

He has today to announce if he intends to go ahead with his recount.

Bob Etheridge will learn today if he is entitled to a recount in his bid to retain the 2nd District seat in Congress.

Election results across North Carolina are to become official during today's canvass.

I would be surprised if he would concede the race at this point. The object is to recount and recount until he 'finds' enough votes to break his way. At the very least, hope for a run-off where he might win that instead. You don't spend fourteen years in Congress without wanting to hang on to that prestige and power like the neck of a college student who asked you a question.

By the way, help Renee out, you jackwagon.

Texas Tea, Police And A Follow Up. . .

To the police firings because they were members of the Tawakoni Area Tea Party. The city released a listing of abuses they said the officers were guilty of.

Schultz and Beckett are both on paid administrative leave while they appeal their terminations.

The termination notices obtained indicate the duo’s involvement in the Tea Party was considered “prohibited political activity” under the city’s employee personnel policies manual. The mayor said the men spoke and advocated against the city council and supported a petition against the mayor as part of their participating in the party.

The two men weren’t just fired for their involvement in the Tea Party, however.

The termination memos mention other alleged infractions by both law enforcement officers including accusations that Schultz drove city equipment to obtain medical treatment, screamed at another city employee in the City Hall parking lot within earshot of the public, lied to federal agents during an investigation, drank booze at a public park and restaurant, drove while intoxicated, slouched at city council meetings, and didn’t discipline Beckett for holding naked pool parties at Beckett’s house.

Besides holding naked pool parties and joining the Tea Party, Beckett’s termination memo also said he drank alcohol in a public park and restaurant, asked a subordinate to follow he and his wife home after they drank too much, didn’t pay his water bill in time, and didn’t properly maintain investigative files and evidence.

Slouching at city council meetings?

I'm not sure what naked pool parties has to do with his ability to be police officer. What a person does in his own time is his own business, IYKWIMAITYD. Unless there is some "Pillar of the Community" type clause in his contract.

The drinking on duty, however, is the serious charge. I'm assuming that it was on duty. If it was off duty, it would hinge on the clause I just speculated about. But that and that alone should be grounds for removal.

The big question remains is why is the Tea Party still listed as part of the reason why Beckett was fired. That shouldn't have been listed at all.

Can Rachel Maddow be charge for stealing cable? It's obvious that Fox News is being played inside her head.

Nickles and dimes and projection. Accusing Fox News of doing the exact same thing that she has done on her own show. But that's okay because she's a progressive and on the side of goodness and light.

Snark aside, attacks like this happen all the time and nine times out of ten, it's a case of projection. When a progressive accuses the right of some wrong doing, they are usually guilty of that said charge. Republicans stealing elections? It ends up being ACORN ballot stuffing for the local democrat. A TV personality at MSNBC accusing Fox News of being a fundraising arm for the GOP? Well, you get the idea.

What A Week This Was

It had its ups (Rand Paul, Marco Rubio) and downs (Christine O'Donnell, the Renee Ellmers recount).

It was definitively pudding worthy, that's for sure.

Time to have a drink and a short break from politics. You can't live off of apple-tinis and bread pudding alone. And enjoy Ben Folds new song.

This Election Isn't Over Yet

AKA, One Last Call For Ten Buck Friday.

Renee Ellmers still needs your help.

Noted choke-hold expert Bob Etheridge will not go faintly into the night after finding a couple of hundred ballots someplace. Etheridge's "Get The Extreme Elderly Out To Vote" seems to be working better than expected.

The margin was close but enough for a decisive win for Ellmers. Until a "counting error" was found. If anymore votes are "found", it trigger a recount by law. And the recount will go on and on until enough votes break for Bob "WWF" Etheridge.

Ellmers needs your support more than ever.
Election night, after the ten counties in my district had reported their votes, I led Bob Etheridge by 2,100 votes. (That number is crucial because under North Carolina law Congressman Etheridge is not entitled to an ‘automatic recount’ if he trails by more than 1% – or 1,888 votes.)

Then, yesterday afternoon – unexpectedly – the vote totals changed. The State Board of Elections reported my lead had dropped to 1,600 votes. Two hours later Bob Etheridge announced he intended to call for a recount.

As a result, last night my campaign began hiring attorneys – eleven attorneys in all. One in each county to monitor each recount and an attorney to work with the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

Right now, our best estimate of the minimum cost we face is $50,000. But, of course, my campaign spent every penny we had before the election.

Yesterday, we appealed to the National Republican Congressional Committee for support, asking if they could contribute to help pay the costs of this recount. Their answer, unfortunately, was, No – that we would have to raise the money to pay for the recount ourselves.

I was afraid that would be their answer. Months ago, I went to Washington and asked the National Republican Congressional Committee and many conservative leaders to help my campaign. Many conservative groups – like the Susan B. Anthony List, Concerned Women of America, Freedom Works, and Sarah Palin’s Sarah PAC all helped, but the NRCC declined. Later, they did support other campaigns in North Carolina – which, unfortunately, lost – but we never received their support. In fact, their spokesman told the press “that the campaign wasn’t ready for prime time” – which actually made it even harder for us to raise money. So, I am doubtful we will get support from the NRCC to help with the expense of the recount.
Since that time, the NRCC has finally done their part for this "Not Ready For Prime Time" candidate who happened to win her election. They did the job they are supposed to do.

Back to Ten Buck Friday.

It was an amazingly simple concept that many blogs picked up on in the run up to the general election. At the end of each workweek, take 10 bucks (or 20 or 30 or whatever amount you wanted to use) and donate it. Instead of dinner for four at Pizza Hut, you could have bought a take and bake pizza and a bottle of soda and sent the price difference to the candidate of your choice. It's that easy.

So here is the scoop. I already donated to Renee's recount fund. And between all of the blogs I contribute to:

Out of those five blogs, surely there is a readership of more than a hundred people on any one day. And if those 100 readers could donate 10 bucks each, it would make it an easy grand in her bank. If it helps, I already donated $25 bucks this morning.

I don't make this bleg (blog beg) lightly. And I'm not saying that Bob "Five Martini Breakfast" Etheridge is out to steal this election. But I'm not not saying it either. And by steal I mean that liberals mean to render you mute on how you want this country to be ran. Don't let them steal your voice and your vote. Speak out today.

Thanks to Bob for some of the links and the reminder for Ten Buck Fridays.

Bob Etheridge "Finds" Ballots

How convenient for him to want a recount. Considering that he lost to Renee Ellmers.

It's his right but it sounds like shenanigans of Al Franken proportions.* In case that's not clear enough: Yes, I'm saying that Bob "Who're you" Etheridge is going to try and steal this election.

The NC-2 Race, in which Renee Ellmers is poised to take down manhandling Bob “Who’re You” Etheridge, has gotten complicated. Last night, it looked like a clear victory for Ellmers and she claimed victory. The gap tightened, however, andnow he wants a recount.

Etheridge is a 6 term incumbent in what was considered a very safe seat for the Democrats. Unfortunately for Bob, it looks bad when you put a college student in a headlock for asking question, and his constituents suddenly became a lot less excited about supporting someone who might attack them.

Recounts and elections lawyers aren't cheap. Please donate to help out Renee.

*Back in 2009, a trunk full of ballots that were heavily slanted toward Al Franken just happened to have been found right before a recount.

One More Video For The Night

Trying to do some more about how the Republicans took over the House but having trouble keeping my eyes open. I was up way too late last night and the screen is splitting in two right now as I type this.

From Ayn Rand herself, what compromise really means.

In short, "Sell out".

Video: The Madness Of Barack Obama

This may be an exercise in tautology but it's also a well needed reminder.

There really isn't much difference between Barack and George W. Bush. Only the speed and the scope of their policies.

Updated: Smitty brought up a good point. There is a difference between the two Presidents. I don't doubt that Pres. Bush loved this country. His policies were the result of compromise with the liberal left. No Child Left Behind among others.

Barack, I believe after watching his actions, doesn't.

I'm Calling It For Renee Ellmers

From the official election desk at the dusty headquarters of At The Point Of A Gun, Renee Ellmers beat incumbent democrat Bob "Who Are You?" Etheridge.

Now This Is Just Sad

Watching the results on NBC and Brian Williams said that "Team Pelosi" just didn't explain her plan well enough to the public.

Nancy Pelosi has no one to blame but herself for not explaining her agenda. She said it best herself, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it".

Drinking Game For The Night

To help clear up any of the spin when listening to the MFM report on the election results. Glad I'm not playing right now. I wouldn't be able to stumble back to bed from my desk.

One more rule. Drink for every time a liberal calls John Boehner "John Boner".

These Are The People Who Will Cancel Out Your Vote

So get out there and punch that ticket, dislodge that hanging chad, touch the computer screen, fill in the line between the two brackets on the oversize ballot and-- who knows if these machines are still out there-- pull that lever tomorrow.

Then the real work begins.

Because for the most part, we'll be turning over the keys to the Republicans. They didn't drive the car into the ditch-- that was the Democrats in Congress-- but they damn well came pretty close before giving up and handing the keys off to someone else. And we all know who that is.

So get out and vote. Except for Democrats. They are voting on Wednesday.
