Do not expect national Republicans to rally around Christine O'Donnell and infuse much needed campaign cash into her campaign for Delaware's open Senate seat. The Tea Party favorite upset establishment backed Rep. Mike Castle Tuesday evening, and GOP officials are concerned that O'Donnell has no chance of winning the seat – once held by Vice President Biden for 26 years – in November.
Last year, the pundits told me that Marco Rubio wouldn't win the primary in Florida, so the NRSC endorsed Charlie Crist.
Earlier this year, the pundits told me that a Republican couldn't win Teddy Kenney's old seat. Republican Scott Brown now serves Massachusetts.
Several months ago, the pundits told me that Rand Paul was a long shot for the Senate. He is now looking at another 'Rand Slide' to win the general.
A few months ago, the pundits told me that Bennett was the best we could hope for in Utah. Now, Bob Bennett will be out of a job come next year.
Last month, the pundits told me that Joe Miller was just a long shot. And he beat incumbent Lisa Murkowski.
And just yesterday, the pundits told me that Christine O'Donnell was unelectable. Next year, Mike Castle will join Murkowski and Bennett at the unemployment office.
Yet, Sarah Palin and the Tea Parties are a fringe movement who are ineffectual and out of touch. And being a moderate Republican is the only way you can win. Or something. At least that's what I'll be hearing in the MFM.
It's a big red wave that's coming this year.

Sources at the Christine O’Donnell victory party revealed to The Freedomist that in December of last year Karl Rove met with Tea Party leaders in Dover, Delaware trying to get them to cut a “deal” in which they would leave Mike Castle alone and NOT support O’Donnell.
After being told in how many elections to shut up and vote for the liberal Republican for the sake of unity, it's now time for it to work the other way around and. . . Oh. Wait.
A Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) campaign source confirmed to The Hill late Tuesday that the longtime congressman will not be endorsing Christine O'Donnell.
I can't think of anything with an "N" and an "R" in its name that is even worth the postage to tell them to bugger off (borrowed from the Brits because it doesn't trip alarms like the related Americanism would...and is probably more accurate, now that I think if it). If they send a business reply envelope, I send them back their crap back, carefully marked NO MORE DIABLOs in every place.

Just as in the cases of tax-paid-for stuff, the IS NO reason to9 send money to the fat cats in Washington so they can dribble a pittance out to the favored grovelers.
Send it to the candidates. Even 8 cents is important.
All this talk of "electable" candidates makes me want to punch someone in the nose.
ReplyDeleteIf I recall correctly, that's how we got stuck with John McCain in '08. "He's electable!" "He's the only one who can win the general!"
That didn't work out so well, GOP establishment.
So, STFU and let *us* decide who's electable and who't not.
Well, one thing it did was teach me, at long last to carefully think through the implications of things like "perfect is the enemy of good" and especially the notion that voting for the progressive with the right label is somehow better that voting for the progressive with the wrong label.
ReplyDeleteI now know (after listening to "well you Republicans were in control, why didn't you...? too many times) that if we are going to have a progressive, let us vote for the one with "(D-...." after their name.
And you might say (as I used to)that McCain would have done less damage.
ReplyDeleteI now believe that if we are able to restore America now, it might well be because the experience of seeing just how bad it can get awakened us in time.
Let us hope that the purgative did not kill us.
@Larry.. I wouldn't say that.. I think McCain would have done many of the same things BHO have done.. Only on a much smaller and slower scale..
ReplyDelete@Speak.. Party unity is a one way street.. A moderate/RINO is nominated it's conservatives being told to "GET IN AND SHUT UP"..
Now that the moderates/RINOs are being voted out.. it's all about them.. Arlen Spector, Murky Lisa.. Where are the calls for party unity behind the conservative candidates (thinking of mostly Delaware here.)

I now think two things:
1. The rate of change under B. Hussein may have scared us into saving what we can still save, while the continuing slow rot under McCain might not have startled us enough to do that.

2. I have come to the place where I am sick unto death of hearing "Well, you Republicans where in power, why didn't you do all these things you say we should do? (Thank you, Newt Gingrich.)
I now thing that if we are going to have democrat-progressive legislation foist on us, I want the names to end in (D-something).
Let me clarify that for the slow-learners like the turncoat Karl Rove:
If I am offered only RINOs and DIABLOs and progressives by the R's, I'll voter for the D,s.
So, Karl, baby, you are going to have to fly your true colors or be out of a job.

ReplyDeleteAnd I have to agree as well with your other point that if I have only a Democrat and Democrat Light to choose from, I'm voting third party or sitting it out because there really isn't a choice.. Only brands.
he problem with "sitting it out" or "voting third party" is that the "R" might get in.

The worst about "sitting out" is that there are local issues and offices that deserve attention even if the headliners reek.
Democrat Light = Moderate Republican (for the most part in the Mike Castle/Lindsey Graham mode)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be sitting out completely.. Just skipping that part of the ballot.
Primaries are where the action is, as evidence of what happened in Delaware last Tuesday.
Anymore, I think if I vote for the Lesser Of Two Evils (LOTE) I'm wasting my vote. My most valuable tool I have in helping to shape the nation. Next time I vote, it will be for someone who deserves it. I want to vote for someone.. Not merely to keep someone else out of office.
