The Press Asks, Gibbs Answers, Press Laughs Back

Just another day in the life of being Robert Gibbs.

Remember that campaign promise that Barack Obama made about not raising taxes on anyone making underneath $250 K a year?

That was from Candidate Obama. Not President Obama. There is a difference, it's subtle but it's there.

The Press Corp can't even take Gibbs with a straight face. Cue the laughter at the end of the clip.

The other point to this? The White House and Congress are looking for ways to pay for nationalized health care. Remember this when the next idiot of an ass clown starts griping about wanting 'free health care'.

The Better Than You Quote Of The Day

Let’s be honest: Barack Obama is better than you are.

He’s a better father — taking breaks from running the world to cheer on his daughters at soccer and basketball games.

He’s a better husband — zipping his wife off for dinner in New York and Paris.

He’s got a better diet — nibbling on vegetables from his homegrown garden to keep his love handles in check.
[. . .]
Obama veered further toward Martha Stewart Living territory in an interview with a Pakistani newspaper on June 21. He told the interviewer about his college travels in Pakistan and talked about the exotic dishes he learned to cook there.

“Keema ... daal ... you name it, I can cook it,” Obama said.

Also, the president noted, he reads Urdu poetry.
[. . .]
Still, the president can’t quite bring himself to confess. Obama bristled at a news conference on Tuesday when Margaret Talev of McClatchy asked about his smoking.

Obama called himself a “former smoker,” adding, “I constantly struggle with it. Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker, a constant smoker? No. ... I would say I’m 95 percent cured.”

Which makes smoking, perhaps, 5 percent of the flaw Obama needs.

Inspector General Gate? Too Long? IG Gate it is.

Over at Pajamas Media, Robert Stacy is looking into it.

Describing the probe into the dismissal of the AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin, one Capitol Hill source on Thursday compared Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley’s demand for facts in the case to a row of dominoes ready to tip over.

Grassley is asking questions, a team of Senate investigators is poring over documents in the case, and where the investigation proceeds now “depends on what dominoes fall next,” explained the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Already, the FBI is looking into charges that Sacramento, Calif., Mayor Kevin Johnson deleted e-mails relevant to an investigation by Walpin, whose dismissal appears to have violated a law passed last year (and co-sponsored by then-Sen. Barack Obama) to protect inspectors general from political retribution. Meanwhile, Grassley has expanded his own probe to include questions of whether the administration is undermining the independence of other government watchdogs.

Read the whole thing. Things aren't so peachy in the land of Unicorns and Rainbows.

Roseanne Barr Struggles To Keep Roseanne Barr's Name In The News

Roseanne Barr use to have a top rated TV show on ABC. Last I knew, she was pitching a reality show of her pitching a sitcom to TV networks. I'm pretty sure it was canceled before the first episode aired.

So how does a burned out, has been try to stay relevant? By claiming Obama has moved to the center of the political spectrum.

MILLER (28:35): How are you liking the new Obama Presidency?

BARR: I don’t at all. I just don’t at all. If you want to know what I think, go to read my blog, rosanneworld.com. And I don’t at all. Basically his speech, his you know joke of a speech.

MILLER: Why?

BARR: Huh? Because it’s just Bush Doc... continuing, Bush Doctine with absolutely no change at all. It’s very frightening.

MILLER: How do you figure? I thought the tone was completely different.

BARR: He said nothing.

MILLER: He said nothing?

BARR: He said absolutely nothing. No, he didn’t.

MILLER: What were you hoping for?

BARR: I was hoping for you know some change. Remember the reason why the guy got voted in? I was hoping for some change and for it to start there in the Middle East because that’s why everything in the world is screwed up including our economy. Instead, he said from here we’re going to grandfather in all of these old settlements. They’ll stay in place. But, you know in the future maybe we won’t allow anymore settlements. This is after what they just did in Gaza over there. They’re (Israel) never held responsible for you know war crimes and this government backs and it makes me sick.

MILLER: But yeah. He’s (Obama) clearly taking a lot stronger line with Israel then previous administrations.

BARR: No he’s isn’t! He hasn’t demanded one. He uses strong rhetoric. He talks harsh and carries the smallest stick in the world. He doesn’t do anything. He hasn’t even you know, don’t get me started.

To Barr's credit, she does recognize the flowery speech that Obama spews forth. Albeit a bit late to the game in that epiphany.

There's more at the link and the audio from the show as well. Is it Schadenfreude to listen to her complain?

More Like Gimp Boy Conservative

I know what Robert Stacy means by this but I have to disagree with the term 'Reservation Conservative'.

This is evidently a play on the term "reservation Indian," denoting the harmless, domesticated breed (e.g., David Brooks) as opposed to us buck-wild conservatives who are prone to guzzling constitutional firewater and taking some liberal scalps.

To me, Brooks is more of a Gimp Boy Conservative. Open the box, bring out the gimp, let him say a few things as a token conservative and back in the box he goes. Brooks is getting way too use to being in the box.

(The following clip is only the movie still and a selection from the soundtrack -- Safe for work.)

I Think I Have Seen All Of These Movies At One Time Or Another

Quote For The Week

Of course, [David] Frum is angry that I have questioned his conservative bona fides, primarily because his solutions to the problems conservatives face always seem to involve conservatives becoming more liberal. Plus, I find it insultingly ironic that a neocon Bush speechwriter would be giving conservatives advice on how to be popular.

To be sure, Mr. Frum is a very tough customer, so long as there is nobody present to challenge him. He's much less intimidating when faced with a formidable opponent. In fact, listening to a recent interview between Frum and radio host Mark Levin clearly demonstrates the kind of pusillanimous pundit he is. During the interview, Levin warns Frum: "People may disagree with you, but you don't make it an obsession ... or a habit ... to keep attacking them personally."

Clearly, Frum has not taken the advice.

This speaks for itself

That's Why He is Ace, Reason # 314

He damned well earned that name.

[B]ecause Contessa Brewer is a cheap, sore-riddled nasty bit of gutterscrunge who'll rent you her mouth for the change in your pocket. A tawdry wallow-trollop oozing with syphilitic fester who raises her filthy skirts at the scent of crack-smoke. A disease-dripping pincushion, the media's vile mattress of last resort, a pathogen in garish vinyl high heels, a loose-toothed croup-breathed nightcrawler reeking of bathtub gin and the genetic stink of human desperation.

(Headline title stolen from Robert Stacy McCain who used it not too long ago)

David Letterman, Still Not Funny

After years of not being funny, David Letterman went two for two with teenage rape jokes. The first on Monday night and the second on Tuesday's show (Conservatives 4 Palin have the videos). It's that level of creepiness that when Elliot Spitzer went to shake hands with Letterman, it was Spitzer who used Purell afterward.

What else can I say that hasn't been said around the blogosphere? Other than a round up of everyone who has said something.

The Hillbuzz has their knives out for Letterman.

Ace has his own take on the ordeal. As well as a picture of Letterman and his lovely bride. Well, lovely to someone, one would hope. After giving birth to his bastard child he finally decided it was time to make it official.

Besides, Ace has been in on Dave's joke. Too bad the joke is on everyone watching Letterman.

Someone else
who woke up from the fog of Letterman's gig.

Little Miss Attila has her own axe to grind with Letterman. As well as a sword, a spear, a knife and a couple of Chinese throwing stars.

Jim Treacher fires back with both barrels.

Riehl World View, Moe Lane, Gateway Pundit and Fausta's Blog.

And that's just for starters.

To top it all off, both Todd and Sarah respond via Facebook.

"Any 'jokes' about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too."

- Todd Palin

"Concerning Letterman's comments about my young daughter (and I doubt he'd ever dare make such comments about anyone else's daughter) [Ed's note: Is that a reference to a current President's daughter?] : 'Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl are not only disgusting, but they remind us Hollywood has a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands - that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.'"

- Governor Sarah Palin

Obama Justice Department Decision Will Allow Non-Citizens to Register to Vote in Georgia

Decision Bars Georgia From Continuing Voter Verification Process

Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel issued the following statement following the U.S. Department of Justice’s denial of preclearance of Georgia’s voter verification process

Atlanta - “The decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to deny preclearance of Georgia’s already implemented citizenship verification process shows a shocking disregard for the integrity of our elections. With this decision, DOJ has now barred Georgia from continuing the citizenship verification program that DOJ lawyers helped to craft. DOJ’s decision also nullifies the orders of two federal courts directing Georgia to implement the procedure for the 2008 general election. The decision comes seven months after Georgia requested an expedited review of the preclearance submission.

“DOJ has thrown open the door for activist organizations such as ACORN to register non-citizens to vote in Georgia’s elections, and the state has no ability to verify an applicant’s citizenship status or whether the individual even exists. DOJ completely disregarded Georgia’s obvious and direct interest in preventing non-citizens from voting, instead siding with the ACLU and MALDEF. Clearly, politics took priority over common sense and good public policy.

“This process is critical to protecting the integrity of our elections. We have evidence that non-citizens have voted in past Georgia elections and that more than 2,100 individuals have attempted to register, yet still have questions regarding their citizenship. Further, the Inspector General’s office is investigating more than 30 cases of non-citizens casting ballots in Georgia elections, including the case of a Henry County non-citizen who registered to vote and cast ballots in 2004 and 2006.

Playboy Magazine Hates Women. Yeah, So What Else Is New?

Screenshots available at Red State.

[Saved screen shots are here, if you want to see how bad it was][And that link is gone now too. Damn, down the memory hole.] Ed Driscoll has a step by step account of it all here. I think this will still be around for a while.

What would you expect from a magazine who's chief claim to fame is taking girls who have father issues and stripping them naked? To stand up for women who's opinions differ from theirs? Or try to silence them the only way they know how? By humiliation and submission.

Playboy has compiled a top ten list of conservative women they would want to 'Hate F***'(Linked directly to the site. No nudity but still NSFW). Way to empower women. Posting pulled (I removed the link too). I wonder why?

Mary Katharine Ham, Amanda Carpenter, Megyn Kelly and, of course, Michelle Malkin are all on the list.

Ed at Hot Air has more about hate.

Let’s be clear about terms here. A “hate f**k” sounds like something perhaps just short of rape, but degrading enough to entertain the perverted twerps at Playboy. The fact that the magazine published this piece of effluvium should be enough to show that everyone in the editorial process, from the writer to Hef himself, don’t want women empowered. They want silent sex objects, and when confronted with women whose opinions differ from theirs, want them humiliated.

Well said.

UPDATED: It's not left vs. right either. [Found the new link]

Now, I'm no prude. Far from it. I know what they're going for here. We've all experienced the phenomenon of having a strong attraction for someone whom we should want nothing to do with. The sexual chemistry of opposites transcends politics, and a certain level of aggression between consenting frenemies can be a powerful enhancement.

But I, in a million years, would never characterize the ignition of these sparks as a "hate f***." The Playboy piece goes on to give each of the women on the list a "Hate F*** Rating." Each entry has its own brand of offense, saying of Mary Katherine Ham "This Ham's not kosher," for example.
