For This Memorial Day

It's refreshing to hear a song like this come out of a public school.

The sheet music for this is being offered for free if you are so inclined.

Besides, how endearing is it to hear kids sing about thanking our soldiers?

At least it wasn't some creepy and cult-like Obama Tribute that other schools have done. Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm.

Did Obama Deliberately Mispronounce The Word 'Corps'?

When speaking from the teleprompter in the past, he said the word 'Corps' as in 'Corpse'.

And that wasn't the first time he's said it that way.

Yesterday, in the press conference about the Gulf oil spill -- and without the aid of a teleprompter -- he manages to pronounce it right in answering a question from Jake Tapper. At about the two minute mark, he started to speak about the Army Corps of Engineers (The video will start at that mark).

Did someone tell the worlds smartest president how it's pronounced one day? Or did he unthinkingly pronounce the words exactly how they are spelled off of the teleprompter?*

Or the worst case scenario is that he is trying to be coy and snub our troops in any way he can? It's not like he's had a history of insulting people in speeches before.

It's something to keep an eye one to see how he'll address the military again. If he pronounces it correctly, someone gave him English lessons. If not, I'm inclined to believe he's trying to be coy and insult the military anyway he can.

*If this is the case, spell check the teleprompter's script before he has a Ron Burgundy moment. Even worse, Barack will head into Ernie Anastos territory.

Welcome To The Party, Orrin

About time you bought a clue as to what Obama is doing.

But you will save your powder in the Senate Confirmation hearings for a real battle and give Elena Kagan a pass. No need to ruffle the feathers of your poker buddies.

The same way you kept your powder dry on Eric "I can call the US a 'Nation of Cowards' but can't call Radical Islam 'Radical Islam'" Holder.

The same way you kept your powder dry on that Wise Latina Woman.

The same way you kept your powder dry on Janet "J-Nap" Napolitano.

And the same way you kept your powder dry on Timmy "Turbo Tax" Geithner. Who, according to the senior Senator from Utah:

[C]alled [Geithner] "brilliant" and "honest" and said that, despite his tax errors, "I don't think we can get a better person for this position. . . . He has the kind of background that should be very helpful to us at this time."

May you go the way of Bob Bennett.

The Gestapo Is Established In Albuquerque, New Mexico

And by Gestapo I mean they are going to mirror Arizona's new law which, in turned, mirrored federal law.

Albuquerque mayor Richard Berry announced today that everyone who is arrested in Albuquerque will have their immigration status checked, regardless of race. Berry announced the plan, which Berry characterized as a “not an immigration issue” but “a public safety issue,” to end what he called Albuquerque’s sanctuary city status.

“This plan ends the sanctuary city policy for criminals while protecting victims and witnesses,” Mayor Berry said. “By making immigration checks mandatory for everyone arrested regardless of their nationality, skin color or language, we are removing racial profiling from the equation.”

Maybe not mirror exactly but it gave me a chance to use the headline the way I did.

Ann Coulter To The GOP

There are some notable exceptions but too many Republicans are sitting back on cruise control for this election cycle. Assuming that 50 plus seats in the House of Representatives are theirs for the taking.

Is it that irrational for me to think that if the Republicans gain control of Congress that they might revert back to their old habits when George W. Bush was pushing the agenda?

To put it briefly: Earn it!

Note to Republicans: Whenever possible, victory parties should be held after the election, not before it.
[. . .]
Why were Republicans predicting victory in a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1? Given a choice between two candidates who both hate ObamaCare, why would lifelong Democrats not vote for the Democrat?

Republicans are playing the same raised-expectations game with the November elections. Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner is ludicrously predicting Republicans will pick up 100 seats in the House in November. Newt Gingrich puts the figure at an equally insane (and weirdly precise) 78. He also predicts the Cubs will win 132 games this season and six games will be rained out.

Keep it up, Republicans, and I'm going to keep naming names. I have Nexis.

For more than half a century, the average midterm pickup for the party out of power has been 24 seats.

Your job, Republicans, is not to go on Fox News and whisper sweet nothings in conservatives' ears. Your job is to repeal the Obama agenda. Raising expectations so high that a 30-seat Republican pickup will seem like a loss is not helping.

Be sure to read the rest.

This Is Disturbing On Many Levels

I want to be careful uttering the 'F-Word' (fascism) here but this does seem eerily similar to how I would picture Hollywood making a movie with a Police State society as a backdrop.

The family of Greg Baer, Bank of America executive, is located in a jurisdiction protected by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), which responded promptly to a disturbance call from his neighborhood last weekend.

According to Corporal Dan Friz, an MCPD spokesperson in Rockville, Maryland, the department received a disturbance call from one of Baer’s neighbors at 4:10 pm last Sunday. Four MCPD units arrived at Baer’s Greenville Rd. address at 4:15 pm. At least two Metropolitan Police Department units from the nearby District of Columbia were already at the scene when they arrived.

Why? Because police cars attached to the Washington MPD’s Civil Disturbance Unit had escorted the SEIU protesters’ buses to Baer’s home.

Be sure to read the rest and see the video.

Spoilers From Tonight's Series Finale Of Lost

You've been warned.

Shifting The Goal Posts?

UPDATE: This is one of the more ridiculous things I've heard in a very long time. That Sarah Palin herself will give up her Pro-Life position?

I said no such thing about Palin.

Read it again.

The same platform that can easily be done away with should the Republican nominee, whoever they are, feel like it in 2012.

If the GOP goes the way David Frum would like it in 2012, then the chances of a pro-abortion candidate are very likely.

Do I think Palin has a chance to be the nominee? I honestly have no clue. Whatever will happen, will happen.

But yes, Lisa Graas has shifted the goal posts. Way back where she wanted something where Palin talked about the plank specifically. Then it was the 14th amendment. I've tried to oblige her. It wasn't to her satisfaction.

I'm done trying to jump through her hoops.

Previously:
The gauntlet was thrown and the challenge laid bare was thus:

On a side note, I have challenged David Riddle, a contributor at Conservatives 4 Palin, to provide me with some quotes from Sarah Palin proving that she is a defender of our Fourteenth Amendment.  See, that's important since it's in our pro-life plank.

To which I replied back:

[Palin] gave a speech on Friday, May 14th to the Susan B. Anthony Organization. There was lots of talk about the Constitution throughout her speech and her support for it as well as endorse candidates who she’ll believe to support those same views. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, it’s available online.

I should have figured it wouldn't of satisfied Lisa Graas's question. She points back to the plank in the GOP Platform of 08. The plank that is by no way law of the land. The platform that lost in 08. The same platform that can easily be done away with should the Republican nominee, whoever they are, feel like it in 2012.

It's safe to say that Graas is for the most part a single issue voter. That's fine, its her choice. I can understand her hesitation at someone who is libertarian like Rand Paul. But I can't find what she wants regarding Palin using the exact verbs and noun in the correct syntax she's looking for. Palin is not a lawyer so I wouldn't expect any legal briefs on that one.

Far as I know, she didn't push any anti-abortion bills through the Alaskan State Congress. They would have been rendered moot if they were signed into law anyway. If the 14th Amendment was repealed, the Alaska would have a chance to be a pro-life state, if I remember my US Government class correctly. There's the catch-22 for Graas. Without the 14th, the Americans With Disabilities Act couldn't be enforce at the federal level and would be up to the individual states to act on it.

What Palin is trying to establish is coalition building. Getting to that proverbial 51% which wins elections and controls Congress.

But for now, I've said my piece and continue to agree to disagree with Graas.

So It Has Come To This: If This Doesn't Satisfy Lisa Graas's Question, I'm Not Sure What Will

Lisa Graas over at Genuine GOP Mom challenged me recently for evidence that Sarah Palin is really pro-life. Specifically, the plank in the GOP Platform what Graas linked to at the GOP election page for 08. You know, the one that Sarah Palin used when running on the GOP ticket as Vice President.

Besides Palin’s actions—being louder than words—as a mom with a special needs child she sought to carry through the pregnancy. Instead of killing the unborn baby when he was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. And as horrid as these numbers are, aborting a special needs child is something that 9 out of 10 mothers have done. She was in the 10% who carried her son to term.

But Palin’s actions weren’t good enough for Graas. Graas wanted the flowery words. Mind you, flowery words from a used car salesman were enough for me buy a crap car when I was younger. Once bitten, twice shy. I’ll take someone’s personal actions over their words any day of the week.  Graas wanted something after Palin endorsed Rand Paul for Senate

The use of the language "Platform" in a speech.

Granted, Palin is not the Chief Expectative of a State anymore but a mere private citizen. Not even actively seeking office but who has more political clout than Mitt Romney or Newt Gringrich.

I have this.  A show of  support for the 14th amendment, in fact the entire Constitution.  She didn’t succeed from the Union as governor of Alaska.

“Not good enough”, is what Graas will probably say. And where I’ll have to counter with this: I have looked but failed to find where Palin lists off the amendments, checking off the pros and cons of each. But there is ample evidence where she talks (not actions, remember, talks.) about supporting those who are Constitutionalists.

Now I would imagine that when Palin talks about the Constitution of these United States, she means the initial document as well as all 27 amendments to the Constitution. Seeing how they are in fact part of the Supreme law of the land. She’s never released a Facebook note with an asterisk behind it saying for example, “*Except for that pesky 20th Amendment.”

For context, I believe in the Bible being the Word of God. I don’t believe a book here and there and consider the rest irrelevant but all 66 books. It’s the same with the US Constitution. I’ll treat it as the Supreme law of the land and will do my best to adhere to its laws (except for when they contradict the Bible’s commandments but that is a theological argument for later). And that includes the Amendments.

The Bill of Rights, absolutely they were needed. The 13th, banning involuntary servitude? You betcha. The 19th, we can talk about but it is the law of the land (And I’ll freely blow the Wolf Whistle of Sexism on me for that one. I. E. it’s a joke.). The 21st, God forgive me but I do love a tasty and cold micro brewed beer from time to time. And that’s only picking a few Amendments out at random.

Specifics, Graas will ask for one more time.

Very well, in the year of our Lord, 2010, she gave a speech on Friday, May 14th to the Susan B. Anthony Organization. There was lots of talk about the Constitution throughout her speech and her support for it as well as endorse candidates who she’ll believe to support those same views. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, it’s available online.

Or as Adrienne posted the key quote from Gov. Palin here:
It all comes down to life and how we're going to take a stand on protecting innocent life and deciding that nobody is beneath the protection of our laws.
Life, meaning all life, special needs and unborn and laws meaning all laws at the local, state and federal level, including the Supreme Law of the Land: The US Constitution.

I’m unclear of the exact hour and minute but I think that should satisfy Lisa Graas's query.

After listening to the speech, I don't believe that she actually said the word, 'Platform' but she did define what was covered under that particular plank.  Rather articulated her stance very well in fact.

If that doesn't quell her line of questioning, I'm not sure what will but I've said my piece about it.  Should it continue, it will be without me and I will wash my hands of this affair.

Friday Night Flashback

Tom Baker was, for my money, the best out of all the Doctors. Yeah, it's a safe bet too.

Pigs. A Wonderful, Magical Animal *

Is there anything they can't do? Offer bacon, sausage, ham, pork chops and. . . Help heal the mangled limbs of soldiers? Yep, ground up pig bladders is helping to re-grow muscle and nerves for those wounded in the line of service.

Via Cassy:

A powder nick-named “Pixie Dust” is being used to save the limbs of war heroes who have been wounded in Afghanistan.

Surgeons have already used the dust to save several soldiers so badly mutilated that they were at risk of amputation.

Made from pig bladders it has the ability to help the human body grow new tissue to replace large areas of a leg or arm destroyed by blast damage.

The part I like is how the doctors why are performing the task of sprinkling the "Pixie Dust" don't know how it works exactly.

Hopefully, this can be fast tracked for everyday use in hospitals here in the states.

*The title came from one of my favorite exchanges in The Simpsons.
Homer: Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute. Lisa honey, are you
saying you're *never* going to eat any animal again? What about
       bacon?
 Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
 Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad! Those all come from the same animal!
Homer: [Chuckles] Yeah, right Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

It's Things Like This That Makes Blood Shoot Out Of My Eyes

Barack Obama and his administration want to wag their fingers and shake their heads at Arizona's new law. But the simple fact is that the law passed because crap like this was allowed to happen.

An Arizona man who has waged a 10-year campaign to stop a flood of illegal immigrants from crossing his property is being sued by 16 Mexican nationals who accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Roger Barnett, 64, began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol, he said, after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home.

His Cross Rail Ranch near Douglas, Ariz., is known by federal and county law enforcement authorities as "the avenue of choice" for immigrants seeking to enter the United States illegally.

Push backs happen too. Especially when people have the power of the ballot box.

Thanks to Karen.

There Are Rats At The White House

Via Bob from The Camp Of The Saints.

As in the rodent kind of rat. Not what most people are thinking.

Obama had just begun an afternoon statement to reporters lauding the end of a Senate filibuster on his financial overhaul plan when some kind of rodent — opinions differ on which — dashed out of the bushes to his right, just outside the Oval Office.

As photographers snapped away, the critter trundled straight past the gray podium with the presidential seal and made a bee-line for another set of bushes to Obama's left.

It's not clear if the president could even see the streaker, but he didn't show any reaction.

I can answer that. Of course he didn't see the rat. His eyes were trained on the teleprompter, saying the words that someone wrote for him.

Quote Of The Week: Working His Way Toward Irrelevance Edition

As voters considered his fate throughout Pennsylvania, Sen. Arlen Specter warned on Tuesday that without him Democrats may not be able to fend off a tea party “takeover.”

“If we’re not careful, if you don’t field the strongest candidate — frankly, like Arlen Specter — they’re going to take over,” Specter said of the tea parties. “Beating the tea party gang is more important than who does the beating.

They want to go back to the gold standard,” he added.“It’d be an 18th-century America.”

Remember The Good Old Days When You Could Burn An Effigy of George W. Bush With Impunity?

Today, not so much.

A bar owner could be in serious trouble with the federal government. He was videotaped burning a statue of President Obama.

And the whole thing was video taped.
[. . .]
The President of Milwaukee's NAACP is outraged and worries it could be racially motivated. "Very offensive. And it sends a terrible message to other people," said Jerry Ann Hamilton.

Yester Years Pub and Grill is owned by Karen Schoenfeld. We wanted to ask her what the bartender meant with the fire. But a message left at the bar wasn't returned. And no one answered the door at her New Berlin home.

"I regret that it happened, that it happened in our state. I think that's the worst image that a person can send out," said Hamilton.

The radical left has cultivated and harvested this attitude of protests for the last eight years. Hell, they've refined it to a science. At the very least an art form in the way of movies. While many people from the right side of the aisle as well as those in the center (at least, those paying attention) stood by and watched in shock silence at what was going on.

The roots of this can be traced all the way back up to the leaders of the Democrat Party. They sat idly on their thumbs when their crazed supporters would call out for the death of George W. Bush. Marching in parades with a noose around the neck of a mock-up Bush doll. Attending protest rallies comparing Bush to Hitler. A very common practice. Even going so far as to have a giant inflatable made of his likeness so people can throw shoes and whatever else they want at him. And the liberal left likes to accuse conservatives of needing Obama to fuel their two minute hate. No real calls for civility went out but rather more encouragement by way of saying nothing to help increase the hate for George Bush.

So now someone responds in kind with burning an effigy of Barack Obama and the Secret Service are called in. Yes, they are just doing their job. No, I don't want Obama to be killed. Last thing this country needs is to make a saint or a martyr out of him. But did the Secret Service investigate everyone who held a sign that said, "I'm here to kill Bush (Shoot me)"?

I shudder to think about the amount of overtime accrued if the Secret Service did investigate everyone who said they wanted to 'Kill Bush'.

If what the bartender did was a crime then there should be a long list of people in front of him waiting to be brought up on the same charge. If not, then the charges should be dismissed because of a huge precedence of court cases brought in before hand.

It's not like they tied a noose around a life sized dummy of Barack Obama and hung it from their chimney. That happened to Sarah Palin.

Can't an effigy be burned in good fun anymore without someone making a federal case out of it? Not when you have a controlling man child in charge of the nation, you can't.

Tea Party Take Over In Maine?

From the looks of it, the business as usual for Republicans hit a snag.

If there was a recurring theme at the Republican State Convention this weekend, it was a reminder for party loyalists to keep their eyes on the prize.
[. . .]
It started with former Gov. John McKernan on Saturday morning, who urged the more than 2,000 Republicans to unite after the primary in support of one candidate for the November general election. McKernan's presence alone was a stark reminder of Republicans' Blaine House banishment. He was the last Republican governor, and left office in 1995 -- 15 years ago. The last Republican before him was in office in 1967.
[. . .]
But during the middle of the convention, amid the recurring calls for unity, a mini-revolt occurred in the party.

The two-page platform that a Republican Party committee had drafted was replaced by a three-page platform proposed by the Knox County Republican Committee and strongly reflective of tea party ideals.

The new party platform, as adopted Saturday, begins with a lengthy introduction that, in part, praises the current Tea Party Movement. It has six main sections, with numerous subsections. Many deal with issues of state sovereignty and personal liberties. Many express stances on federal government issues. [You can find the platform here]

I know the platform is merely a guideline, not the party's rule of law but it is nice to see some Tea Party folks getting involved with a political party on the state level.

The Secret Coded World Of Wolf Whistle Sexism

To be sure, this is not a joke like the supposed "Dog Whistle Racism" where a third party can declare you of being racist for something you said that was completely unrelated to race.

Robert Stacy comes close to blowing the Wolf Whistle of Sexism with his latest posting.  He skirts the issue of sexism but never impales his target. To the untrained eye, it looks like he's trying to exploit the new Miss American by putting up pictures of her pole dancing but he's well within the realm of good taste for a blog.

Wolf Whistle sexism is something that most men and women wouldn't even realize they are guilty of it until it's too late.

Bob Belvedere, an avid follower of the Five Rules for Blogging, is known far and wide for his Rule 5 postings. He's not even close to having the Whistle blown on him.

Because the Wolf Whistle of Sexism is something that only a select few can hear and judge. And only after the fact of the matter. Amanda Marcotte can brag about how the ceremonial nick of the female clitoris is fine with her but now, after the fact, it's quite sexist. I'm hearing the Wolf Whistle quite loudly after reading her blog.

Amanda Marcotte probably didn't even realize she was guilty of being a complete and total sexist. Rest assured, as soon as she was able to justify her views of genital mutilation, a secretary somewhere got her rump slapped and was told to fetch her boss some coffee. That affront to women everywhere rests solely on Amanda's shoulders like a padded jacket straight out of a 1980's music video.

It need not happen this way. Nobody should ever have to unknowingly sound the Wolf Whistle of Sexism. There is a cure for most people. Should you ever be accused of committing Wolf Whistle Sexism, go to the store and pick up a copy of 'Going Rouge' right away.  At the very least click over and read Conservatives 4 Palin as soon as you can.  Will that get you feeling better?  You betcha!

Amanda Marcotte is an extreme case, however. She may as well be a lost cause. To cures what ails her is something I woudln't normally suggest.

But then not all cures are worse than the disease.

A Tale Of Two Scotts. Taylor and Rigell in Virginia

LINKED: Smitty over at The Other McCain didn't need to be asked twice about giving Scott Taylor some linky love. NTTWAWWT.

In keeping focused on the Commonwealth, the Second Congressional District of Virginia is in a heated primary between Scott Taylor and Scott Rigell. The are set to duke it out in a primary contest on June 8th.

One thing that did stand out when I was researching this is how Rigell had donated money to Barack Obama in 08 (See here, one of these is not like the other).

Rigell's defense of the donation?

"Yes, I was moved by his rhetoric and by the prospect of seeing a minority rise to the highest office in our land. If we were to end up with a Democrat President I wanted that person to be Obama"

As a car salesman, you would think that he would be immune to rhetoric and B.S. If he was moved enough to donate to Barack Obama, I question the rest of his judgment.

He's not feeling much remorse over giving Barack Obama $1,000 as you can see.

If you need two reasons to vote for Scott Taylor? He's never donated to Barack Obama and he's Hampton Roads Tea Party Approved.

Donate now to Scott Taylor's money bomb because he can dot the i on a 'No Parking' sign from about a mile away.

John McCain Loosing Campaign Staffers Faster Than He Flip Flops On Positions

And if you've seen his "Build the dang fence" commercial, that's pretty damn fast.

Sen. John McCain's re-election bid lost its campaign manager and another veteran Republican official, part of a shake-up for the Arizona lawmaker locked in a tight primary race with radio host and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth.

The pair of GOP hands—who started before Hayworth entered the race—will instead work on the Republican National Committee's effort in Arizona. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers said neither Shiree Verdone nor Mike Hellon, a former Arizona GOP chairman, were fired.

"Senator McCain is very grateful for all that Shiree and Mike have done to launch the re-election campaign and establish it on a firm footing and looks forward to working closely with them for victory in November," Rogers said in a statement.

McCain, his party's 2008 presidential nominee, drew a Republican primary challenge that has forced him to the right. The one-time champion of a moderate, bipartisan approach to immigration now is running ads demanding Washington finish "the danged fence" he once mocked.

To be honest, I have no idea how effective this would be. It depends, like all things, on the participation.

As far as I could tell, I entered two different names with two different emails but kept the mailing address the same and it accepted both. So hopefully, two free stickers are on their way and will go right into my burn barrel.

I'll have to look up a few more older addresses and enter those as well.

Turn Up The Country Tonight

Thanks to Nicole for the help.

A Divider, Not An Uniter

If I had to use one word to describe Barack Obama, it would be divisive. If it was three words 'bastard' and 'socialist' would be in there somewhere.

He can't make it a week without castigating someone. One of the latest examples is with the Gulf Oil spill and how his administration is going to deal with BP. By keeping their "boot on the throat of BP".

They aren't the only one either.
  • He's been speaking out against Fox News and Rush Limbaugh for some time.
  • The greed of big pharmacy and health insurance companies.
  • Calling the Tea Parties, 'Tea Baggers'.
  • The illegal immigration law in Arizona.
That's for starters. As a hard core ideologue, he can't unite.  His career to date, before becoming President, has been one that he could afford to be divisive. Community organizer, Illinois State Senator and US Senator. So that he's the chief executive of the country, he's doing what he's always done. Polarize people. Propping up Emmanuel Goldsteins in times of crisis so that he could push through his agenda that Congress wouldn't normally consider.

Barack Obama would have trouble trying to unite chocolate and peanut butter.

Covered here earlier, Al Gore has recently purchased a very nice seaside house in California. Trading in air, i.e. 'Carbon Credits', has paid off well for him.

Picture credit here, other pictures at the link.

Like the man said, "I'll believe it's a crisis when the people who tell me it's a crisis start acting like it's a crisis."

DCCC Cuts Their Losses In Hawaii. . .

. . . Meaning that Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou (R) pretty much has the election in the bag.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee effectively knew the party had no chance of winning the Hawaii special election when it withdrew from the race.

The vote is being conducted entirely through mail-in ballots. The day the DCCC announced it was pulling out of the state, the Hawaii Office of Elections said an estimated 90,000 ballots of the 317,337 mailed out had been received.

That means voter turnout is now at slightly more than 28 percent, and because it’s a special election it’s not expected to climb much higher.

The turnout figure, combined with public polling of the three-way race and the winner-take-all election format, meant the Democrats knew they effectively had no chance of defeating Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou (R).

“This election is pretty much over,” Djou told The Hill.
[. . .]
The DCCC, which had spent more than $300,000 on the race, declined to comment further than its Monday statement, where the party said it was withdrawing because “local Democrats were unable to work out their differences.”

Who Saw This Coming?

Besides everyone who isn't a Democrat member of Congress, the Left Wing Media, union leaders and the 52% of the population who voted for Barack Obama.

Congressional Budget Office estimates released Tuesday predict the health care overhaul will likely cost about $115 billion more in discretionary spending over ten years than the original cost projections.

The additional spending — if approved over the years by Congress — would bring the total estimated cost of the overhaul to over $1 trillion.

I'm shocked, shocked about this news.

John McCain Pisses Down Arizona Voter's Backs, Tells Them It's Raining

Via Robert McCain.

This is the worst case of political whiplash I've seen.

This was the same Maverick McCain who introduced Amnesty with Teddy Kennedy. Now he wants to enforce the border and build a fence? The man is pandering for votes. He claimed to be principled and have honor but now when his Senate job is on the line, he'll sell himself out in an instant.

Michelle Malkin has more about Maverick McCain:

McCain has never admitted he was wrong about his support of:
*The $700 billion all-purpose, earmark-stuffed TARP bailout;
*The $25 billion auto bailout;
*The $300 billion mortgage entitlement bailout; and
*The first $85 billion AIG bailout.

Anymore, a vote for Maverick McCain will leave Arizona like an abused woman in a hospital wondering why her drunken boyfriend just beat her up again when he promised he would change.

As Bob Belvedere would say, "It's dog track time."

Vote J.D. for Senate.

The Problem With Safety Nets

This helps define the problem with cushy unemployment benefits and multiple extensions. Why would someone jeopardize their guaranteed check from Uncle Gubmint than go out and work at a temp job. When they run out of extensions then it's time to go looking for a job, not beforehand.

Landscapers are having trouble filing temporary jobs in Michigan-- who has the lowest unemployment in the US-- because people don't want to give up their unemployment checks.

Landscape workers can earn about $12 per hour in Michigan and would make $480 per week before taxes working full-time, or about $350 per week after taxes. In addition, full-time landscape workers would face transportation costs and other work-related expenses. But collecting unemployment benefits and working zero hours per week, many of those unemployed workers can receive $255 per week tax-free for almost two years, which is only $95 less per week than if they worked full-time. For some workers who are getting the maximum of $387 per week in jobless benefits, they can receive even more from collecting benefits than they would get paid going back to work full-time.

It's policies like this that help kill the entrepreneurial spirit of a nation.

The VAT In Europe Today And Other Monday Links.

The future is now in Europe on how the VAT works.

After almost two months of waiting for the iPad to arrive in their country of residence, international users are now complaining about the inflated price some of them must pay for the tablet, compared to the U.S. prices. For example, in the U.K., the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi-only iPad costs £429, which equates to almost $150 more than in the U.S.. In Canada, the price difference is of almost $40 for this model, while in the Euro currency area, the difference can reach $150 as well.
[. . .]
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has once again taken to his iPhone to respond to complaints. Jobs reportedly said in an e-mail to an obfuscated U.K. customer that he needs to educate himself, explaining that U.K. prices must by law include VAT (17.5 percent), while U.S. price do not include tax -- hence the difference

There's some more nuances than that but the VAT is the big difference so far.

Shocker! Fannie Mae has lost even more money. $13.1 billion in the first quarter of this year. For perspective, the court has estimated that Bernie Madoff has lost about $18 billion of investor's money with his ponzi scheme. Piker's work compared to Fannie and Freddie.

And after the Federal Government's handling of FM/FM, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and their soon to be mishandled ObamaCare, why not put everyone's 401K's in their hands?

One way they might do this is to confiscate the cash on hand in exchange for a promise to make future payments in the form of an "annuity." An involuntary annuity, in that scenario.

Sounds like how Social Security is treated. Cash will go into a "lockbox" (The general fund) and IOU's will be paid out later. What could possibly go wrong?

Help Turn Pennsylvania Red

Robert Stacy has the inside track with Tim Burn in the 12th district of Pennsylvania. Jack Murtha's old district. He was one of the few who had his district rigged so he had to be carted out in a wooden box instead of being voted out. Now that Murtha has become a good kind of Demorcrat, there is a viable opportunity for a conservative to be elected there.

Robert Stacy emailed:

Just got off the phone with Angela Lash of the Tim Burns for Congress campaign and she says they’ve already got teams of volunteers coming in from Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. But it looks like they’ll need all the help they can get because — with less than two weeks to go before the May 18 special election — Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post just raised the stakes:

While the special elections in Pennsylvania’s 12th district and Hawaii’s 1st district — set for May 18 and May 22, respectively — are both important markers in the race for control of the House this fall, the Keystone State race to replace the late Rep. John Murtha (D) matters more when it comes to analyzing the overall political environment. . . .
Pennsylvania goes before Hawaii and primacy matters in these sorts of things. A loss by Democrats in Pennsylvania would prime the pump for a series of “Are Democrats headed for disaster?” stories if Djou goes on to win for days later. If Democrats can win in Pennsylvania though, they are far more able to withstand a loss in Hawaii — writing it off to local rather than national politics. . . .
[I]t’s clear that Pennsylvania’s special election is the more true national referendum of the two May races. It’s why spending by the two national parties is already over $1.1 million and nearly certain to grow considerably in the final 13 days of the race.
And, it’s why every political eyeball in the country will be focused on southwestern Pennsylvania on May 18.

So there you have it. If Tea Party people want to make a difference — to help write those “Democrat disaster” headlines Cilizza is worried about — then it’s time to visit TimBurnsForCongress.com, or e-mail the campaign or call 814-619-3414.

More About Those "Racist" Tea Parties

Via Jim Treacher.

Most of the people talking are from the pasty white lineup at MSNBC so take that with a grain of salt. Besides, this video from Reason will reach more people than the 30 or so people who regularly watch PMSNBC.*

The other person calling the Tea Partiers racists that wasn't receiving a check from GE was noted white person Janeane Garofalo. But if this is what her own dog thinks of her, why should her opinion count?

Somehow the dogs always seem to know.

Hot On The Heels Of The South Park Mohamed Episode. . .

. . . Comes this show about Jesus Christ:

"JC," is a half-hour about Christ wanting to escape the shadow of his "powerful but apathetic father" and live a regular life in New York.

"In general, comedy in its purest form always makes some people uncomfortable," said Comedy Central head of original programming Kent Alterman, who returned to the network in January after a stint at New Line

Obviously "some people" aren't members of the religion of peace(tm).

It's rather duplicitous of Alterman to say this after censoring South Park's episode about free speech.

Is This Fake?

UPDATE: Linked by one of the few good liberals that I know of.

I got a decent laugh out of this but after the second viewing, something seemed off. Almost as if it was staged.

For starters, The cop knew the rider's name, Steve. As if Steve was a habitual offender for driving his mower to the bar. Also, Steve's voice is being picked up remarkably well on the cops mic. Personal mics have a limited range. So when Steve is on the ground, facing away from the cop's mic, you can still hear him at the same audio level as when he's facing the microphone.

I'm calling fake but still funny.

One More Conservative Out Of The Hollywood Closet

Via Speak, Dog! Speak!*

I've heard rumors about her being right of center but I think this pretty much confirms it. Janine Turner is out, promoting her new site, Constituting America. From their mission statement:

A renewed, rekindled enthusiasm and a patriot’s desire for the understanding of our Constitution begins with its accessibility. Challenging the mindset of those who consider our Constitution to be antiquated, is our mission. An enlightened America regarding her roots, her basis, and her thesis is the key to America’s pertinent survival. Americans have rights. Americans must have knowledge to understand them.

Constituting America’s mission is to reach, educate and inform the youth and all citizens through modern technology and modern means, because we must not let those who devalue freedom dominate the debate.

She's probably best known for her role in the show, Northern Exposure. She wasn't quite as blond then. She had more of a pixie cut.

*Which is one of the cooler names for a blog, in my opinion.

GM To Answer Some Tough Questions

Reason TV called out Ed Whitacre earlier here. Soon, Whitacre may have to answer to Congress.

Now Whitacre is not a dumb guy, nor are there any ethics scandals in his previous record as a very successful CEO at AT&T. He was even the national head of the Boy Scouts of America, so why all of a sudden is he making a transparently false statement in a GM TV spot?

Three Republican members of Congress are asking the same question and they are also demanding some answers from Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, who oversees the TARP program and who issued a statement endorsing the GM claim and citing the repayment as evidence that the government's bailout effort is working.

Be sure to read the entire thing.

With Friends Like These. . .

Richard Gere can do the Public Service Announcement for this. Friends don't let friends stick animals into someone else's hindquarters.

The 50cm long Asian swamp eel was allegedly inserted into the unnamed man's bottom, after he passed out drunk, by pals playing a prank on him.

Medics said the eel had devoured his bowels.

Rectum? Hell, it killed him.

"Utopia's Always End In Death Camps"

A friend of mine is fond of saying that, and if you follow the reasoning out to the logical conclusion, he's right.

Sometimes I think the biggest cleave in politics is between the Abstract Party and the Concrete Party. The Abstraction Party is largely, but not entirely, the liberal Democrats, and the Concrete Party is largely, but not entirely, the conservative Republicans.

The Abstract Party thinks, of course, in abstractions, and elevates these abstractions -- often speculative or plain fantastical -- over real-life human lives, the concrete, the real, the demonstrable, the solid. And part of what sustains the Abstract Party is their faith, a religious faith, really, that what they "know" abstractly they know with 100% surety, so if they're told by their priests (their politicians and pundits) that it's better in a the long run that some dirty farmers are bankrupted and die penniless than we allow the delta smelt to die off, then they just believe that, on faith (as it's speculative, and who has anyway of knowing what's best in the long run; in the long run, as they say, we're all dead), and simply push forward with plans that result in catastrophic ruin for real-life people because they are so damn sure their belief in a speculative abstraction trumps any of that.

As a member of the Concrete Party, that gives me great pause. I don't really possess that level of intellectual arrogance. I can't believe in speculation and abstraction enough to think that, when the rubber meets the road, I can choose obliterative poverty for an entire region of the country with the confidence that I'm doing the right thing by basically ending human lives.

The Abstract Party has done an awful lot of evil in the world. I'm going full Godwin here to note that the Nazis were a party of abstraction, fueled by the unproven belief, which they nevertheless were willing to kill for, so sure of it were they, the Jews were somehow responsible for just about every ill in Germany and that some abstract and speculative Utopia would arise if only the lands could be purged of the Jews.

Elevating, again, a belief in some dreamy abstraction over the real and inarguable suffering created by it.

You've got to be borderline crazy to do this. Seriously. I'm sure Lee Harvey Oswald had some belief he was quite sure of -- Kill Kennedy and the World Becomes A Wonderful Place -- and you have to be pretty insane to be sure enough of that proposition to kill someone you've never met and have no actual quarrel with.

At some point you'd think that the testimony of their own eyes -- seeing people suffer and die in the real world -- would shake them out of their unshakable belief in the abstract "Good" they're pushing for, but you'd be wrong.

They have a religious conviction about it. They are religious zealots-- lunatics, cultists -- who believe in Paradise on Earth and if you have the chance at Paradise on Earth human lives are small potatoes in the scheme of things.

And they tend to call this lunatic religious passion "reason" and "science." And they're quite serious about that.

More Zooey!

If Hollywood wants to make another movie about Loretta Lynn, here's your gal.

Reason TV Calls BS On GM

Did GM really pay back the Government loan in full and ahead of schedule? Short answer, yes. Long answer, with someone else's money.

In other news, I made a buck by taking a dollar out of my right pocket and putting it in my left.
