Weinergate: Weiner Calls It Quits

Handed in his letter of resignation. No word yet if he's accept Larry Flint's offer yet.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) has now officially resigned from the House of Representatives — and House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) has the letter to prove it.

“I hereby resign as the Member of the House of Representatives for New York’s Ninth Congressional District effective at midnight Tuesday June 21, 2011,” Weiner wrote. “It has been an honor to serve the people of Queens and Brooklyn.”

The letter, dated June 20, is addressed to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D.) and Cesar Perales, New York’s Secretary of State. It is carbon-copied to Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.)

There has been some talk about how since he was a Democrat caught in a sex scandal, he wasn't going anywhere. Normally, that would be true but Weiner was married to Hillary Clinton's top aide. There wasn't any walking back after publicly humiliating Hillary's confidant.

Obviously, this is all speculation on my part. Who knows exactly what all lead Weiner to finally quit. He's gone and good riddance.

  1. You know, a healthy Weiner wouldn't quit so easily. If a healthy Weiner were having trouble performing his duties, he'd excuse himself temporarily, take some respite, change of scenery you know, like the kitchen for some water, and then would return to his Weiner duties with full and earnest eagerness.
