A would-be carjacker died Monday night after allegedly being shot by the car's owner on the city's west side, police said.
A preliminary investigation found the 19-year-old suspect took a man's car at a gas station about 8:30 p.m. near McNichols and Evergreen, Sgt. Eren Stephens said.
The driver, who had a concealed pistol license, then pulled out a gun, Stephens said.

Shots were fired; the suspect was struck at least once and continued driving the victim's car until it hit a tree, she said.
The teen was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

Video: Reason TV And The California Open Carry Law
How Fear, Not Fact, Informs the Gun Rights Debate.
Be sure to read the rest
California has among the strictest gun laws in the country, and couple of local politicians are seizing the opportunity created by the Arizona shooting to make them even stricter.
While most states operate under a "shall-issue" concealed carry weapons (CCW) permitting regime, meaning that anyone who passes a basic background check can get a CCW, California uses the "may-issue" rule, which means the decision is left to the sole discretion of the county sheriff. The result? Approximately 0.1% of California citizens have CCWs, which is almost 20 times lower than in the average shall-issue state.

Open Carry advocate Sam Wolanyk, who once successfully sued San Diego county when police arrested him for open carrying, says that the focus on lawful gun owners is misguided.
"It doesn't matter if you stacked up 50,000 felonies," says Wolanyk of the Loughner situation. "You can't stop a crazy person from doing crazy things."

Question For The Day: Are "Gun Free Zones" Really Really “Target-Rich Environments”?
Via Insty.
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Still a yes.
It doesn't take a Great Dane and a handful of meddling kids to figure this one out.
Whoever the shooter is, he's going to want to shot as many people as possible and at the same time, create terror in those he's not shooting in the hopes that they wouldn't act against him.
When someone starts to shoot back, it takes the 'fun' out of it.

Uncle Ted Defends The 2nd Amendment
"A whole gaggle of numb-nuts who would try to tell me, they would dictate where, how and if I can defend myself. I find that preposterous."

Obama claims that:
"This war is being waged with guns purchased not here but in the United States . . . more than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that lay in our shared border," President Barack Obama said on a visit to Mexico on April 16, 2009. "So we have responsibilities as well.
But that is only part of the picture he wants to share.
"According to the article, "a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S." The article goes on to say many weapons are coming from a wide variety of foreign sources including China, South Korea, Spain and Israel, as well as from the Russian Mafia and other nefarious sources in Asia, South and Central America.

Because It Will Work This Time
Eric Holder, the current Attorney General, is looking to introduce a second Scary Looking Weapons ban that expired under Pres. Bush. While grasping at straws for the reasons to do so.
Yes, because drug smugglers and coyotes hold the law with such respect. You know what else will help the flow of illegal guns into the US? Actual enforcement of the borders.
Watch this video to see which 'assault weapons' will actually be banned. After the video, you should know why it's been termed 'Scary looking weapons' ban. Based purely on cosmetics.
"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstate the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.
Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

Not a Total Sellout Yet.
She went a little squishy on illegal immagration but it's nice to see her holding fast to her guns.
Gillibrand said neither she nor her husband is a hunter, and in a general discussion of gun control said, "If I want to protect my family, if I want to have a weapon in the home, that should be my right."
. . .
"It's a false debate," she said. "It's political rhetoric that's sucking you in to believe that hunters owning a gun or an American citizen who wants to protect his home owning a gun somehow increases gun violence."

Bad emotions make for bad law.
It was tried about a year ago. And has come around again. The gunshow loophole. The WaPo has this nugget buried deep in the report:
Cho was crazy. Apparently others noticed:
Cho was able to buy his gun through the normal channels then spread his carnage on the campus of Virginia Tech. So if the 'loophole' gets closed, the next crazy man will still be able to buy his gun through the normal channels, arrives at the campus of his choice, then tries to top Cho's record.
The closing of gunshows won't stop crazies from shooting people up.
Seung Hui Cho, obtained his weapons from federally licensed firearms dealers and underwent criminal background checks.
Cho was crazy. Apparently others noticed:
...the shooter at Virginia Tech, also had no history of violence. But he did have a record of mental illness. He frightened people, including his teachers. His behavior worried his roommates enough that they contacted school officials, who arranged a psychological evaluation for him. He was briefly hospitalized, and outpatient mental health treatment was recommended but not required. His parents were never informed. And, as is so often the case, he never followed through in getting help.

Facts about scary looking weapons.
There has been a lot of talk about the 'Assault Weapons Ban' making it's return to congress. This time, with no expiration date. The truth is that the law that was passed is a 'Scary Looking Weapons' ban. This video was made back when Clinton enacted the law the first time but still as truthful then as it is now.

It Begins.
People wanting a job with Obama's administration have a new question on their application.
It will be his administration and it's his choice to add that question on the application. I think it is a sign of his intent to want to legislate guns away from the public in the name of crime or public safety. Regardless of the fact that gun control of any kind has worked in the past.
Thanks to Ed of Hot Air.
Tucked in at the end of the questionnaire and listed under “Miscellaneous,” it reads: “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”
